Are You Coaching Yourself? Coaching Yourself to Success
I have always liked the start of something new – a new project, a new book, and yes, a new year. A New Year is a new beginning, and an opportunity for all of us to make a fresh start.
A few questions to help you coach your way to success:
- What have you learned this year? About yourself, your loved ones, about life in general?
- How can you leverage this wisdom in the year ahead?
- What needs to change so that in 2022 your life will be even better?
These are important questions to reflect on. After all, how can we change if we don’t first know what it is we want to change? Or what do we want to stay the same? It’s easy to list out the typical things like, eat healthier, exercise more, and be okay with saying no. Oftentimes we create goals that aren’t achievable, measurable, or sustainable. Leaders can instead set an intention for the year—in other words, how they want to show up in their professional and personal lives.
What about a goal as simple as more fun and less worry? Maybe even a goal of going from operating in a state of being overwhelmed to a place of overjoyed? Or exercising more compassion and understanding with others (especially in the workplace) to have less strife in your life?
How about we both set a goal of being more adaptable and open to learning new things and meeting new people? Openness to change puts you in a better position to grow and be successful in 2022. I challenge you to discover what would it take for you to level up your effectiveness as a leader? How are you helping others reach their highest level of potential or do you need to take the time to access what’s holding them back?
Take time to reset and reflect where you are in your life, then write down what you want more of, less of, and what should stay the same. Establish what you want your goals as a leader for the first 100 days of 2022. Small steps do lead to great places. Then use a few of these questions to coach you through setting your goals. Share with someone who can help hold you accountable. Keep track of your progress and find ways to celebrate the wins. And remember to give yourself permission to revisit, reassess and readjust your goals throughout the year and you will be coaching yourself to greater victories!
